Success Stories

At Midwest Podiatry Services, Ltd., helping you to put your best foot forward is our goal. Many satisfied patients have had these things to say in response to the care provided by our doctors and staff:

Nerve Injury After Car Accident

Sandra B., who was suffering from a nerve injury as a result of a car accident, had this to say after she had nerve decompression surgery to help restore sensation and decrease pain in her lower legs and feet, "This was the best decision that I could have made.  Dr. Stern is great.”

Ulcerations, Infections and Gangrene

Ulcerations, infections and gangrene are common foot and ankle problems affecting thousands of diabetics each year.  The most common cause for hospitalization of diabetic patients is foot infections requiring amputations.  Mr. Z. has a history of diabetes mellitus and peripheral vascular disease and was introduced to our doctors while he was an inpatient at Rush Oak Park Hospital.  Mr. Z. had a wound requiring surgical intervention.  Our doctors treated him aggressively and have continued to monitor his excellent progress for the past year and a half.

Diabetic Neuropathy

After nerve decompression surgery, Thomas Markley said, "I could feel the results immediately.  I was able to feel the difference between hot and cold right away."

As a diabetic patient who had been suffering from painful peripheral diabetic neuropathy, Mr. Markely had a neurosensory test done in our Oak Park office.  This painless test provides a measurement to determine the extent of nerve damage in the lower legs and feet.  Test results confirmed the doctor's assessment of bilateral sensory neuropathy.

Mr. Markely said that even though he was hesitant to do surgery, it was "nice to have the choice", and he was amazed that "an outpatient procedure could produce such great results."  He added, "It turned out a lot better than I expected."  Mr. Markely was so happy with his results; he recently had the same procedure performed on his other foot.

Activity Restored After Arthritis Diagnosis

Margaret Michalski is an active woman who enjoys walking, swimming, yoga, Pilates and working in her garden.  She was referred to our doctors by her rheumatologist at Rush University Medical Center.  She told us, "I had pain in my right foot and after I had every test known to man, they diagnosed me with arthritis".  She was no longer able to participate in the physical activities that she enjoyed.

Ms. Michalski was seen by Dr. Stern who provided various treatment options.  Although conservative treatment alternatives were attempted; ultimately, a surgical approach was necessary.  A fusion of the joints in the foot was performed for the degenerative arthritis in her right foot.

Six months after her surgery, exercise is once again a part of her daily life, "I feel a big difference and every day it gets better".  Recently in our office, Ms. Michalski said that she has achieved significant progress and "I feel like I have been given my life back."
